BOAS, FREDERICK, son of Rev. William Boas, was born at Reading, Pa., July 3, 1785. His parents were emigrants from Germany, and came over with the Muhlenbergs. Frederick learned the trade of a coppersmith and tinplate worker at Reading, but commenced business for himself at Kutztown. He came to Harrisburg in 1811, where he carried on his trade successfully. He was an enterprising citizen, and although quiet and unobtrusive, a representative man in the community. He died at Harrisburg, June 17, 1817, aged thirty-one years. Mr. Boas married, May 17, 1811, Elizabeth, daughter of David and Regina (Orth) Krause, who survived her husband many years, leaving two children: Frederick Krause and Elmina, who married William Jennings.
