FOX, JOHN, son of John Fox and Ann Margaret Rupert, was born June 10, 1780, near Hummelstown, Dauphin county, Pa. He was educated in the country schools of the neighborhood, and a farmer by occupation. He became quite prominent and influential in the political affairs of the county, and served as a member of the House of Representatives of Pennsylvania from 1831 to 1833. He filled the office of sheriff from October 14, 1833, to October 21, 1836, and again from October 19, 1839, to October 24, 1842. Apart from these positions of trust and honor, he served his neighbors in the various township offices with fidelity. He died at his residence in Hummelstown, July 19, 1853 aged seventy-three years. He was a representative man, not only of his family but of the county, a faithful officer, of strict integrity, upright and conscientious in all his relations with his fellow-men.
