SHOOP, John, carpenter, Royalton, Pa., was born in West Hanover township, Dauphin county, Pa., September 25, 1825 ; son of Samuel Shoop and Catherine (Hoover)| Shoop. The father was an early settler of Dauphin county, and reared thirteen children, of whom two are still living : John and George, a resident of Dauphin county. John was reared in his native township and attended the country schools until he was seventeen years of age, at which age he learned the carpenter trade, and has since followed that occupation. He lived in West Hanover township until 1884, and then removed to what is now known as Royalton. In 1847 he married Sarah Long, daughter of George Long, by whom he had three children, of whom one is living, George, born in 1854, at Rockville, Dauphin county, where he is now living. Mr. Shoop is in fellowship with the United Brethren church.
